Fourth of July Festivities!

We had such a busy holiday weekend for the fourth but it was totally worth it!

Saturday was clean out day! We had a tag sale at our house and were thrilled to get rid of lots of STUFF! We did really well too...got rid of most everything. It is so nice to free up some space in our basement. After all, we need to make room for one more in our house! :)

We were able to enjoy the evening portion of Saturday at a few parties. We stopped by Tom's parent's house to visit some family and friends. It was great to see everyone! Gloria had fun with her friend Janine and she even got to play a little with her cousins Teagan and Brady!

After we visited for a bit, we headed to Barney and Shannon's house for their annual Fourth of July BBQ. We always have a blast with the crew and all the kiddos. The party keeps growing as we keep multiplying! ;) After sunset, we all headed to watch the fireworks. It was a long day but worth every minute of it! It was such a memorable day!

Sunday we headed to another Independence Day party at uncle Frank's camp. We try to attend this party every year because it is just so much fun! We love getting a chance to visit with everyone. Gloria was very excited to make a new friend too. She bonded with a 6-year-old girl. They were two peas in a pod! Too cute! This year, we ended up staying for the parade they have. We usually head home in order to get G into bed but we thought she could handle the late night this year. She did great and was thrilled with the parade! :) We are so grateful to Frank and Prescilla for hosting such a great party!

Monday was our last event of the weekend. Gloria was especially excited about this one because it was a party for her dear friend Bre! Bre turned 3-years-old on the Fourth and her parents invited us over to celebrate! We had a blast!

We ended the weekend with some family time Monday evening which was really nice. We had homemade strawberry shortcake for dessert and roasted marshmallows by the fire. It was the perfect ending to a fun-filled weekend!

It was an awesome weekend but we were zonked by the end. We need a holiday weekend from our holiday weekend! ;)

Happy Fourth of July!

It has been a busy Fourth of July weekend for us! I'll post more about our weekend full of activities but for now, I thought I would share a video from today's festivities. Today is not only Independence Day, it is our little friend Bre's birthday! We were thrilled to have been invited to celebrate with the crew at Matt and Dawn's house today. We had so much fun! Below is a video of the potato sac race the kids did. What fun! If I wasn't pregnant, I would have been jumping along with the kiddos! :)

Responsibility to Our Relationships

I had to share this post by my friend Sara who also writes a blog called A Place to Write. She is a talented writer and I love reading her posts. As a fellow mom, I can relate to many of them. You can read the post here.

There is one portion of the post that I'm going to share here that I thought was really important. Actually, I think the whole post deserves to be highlighted but this particular paragraph really spoke to me and a situation I experienced in the past.

If you want someone to know how you feel about anything, or you want them to behave, respond, react a certain way, you have to tell them! We spend so much energy resenting our loved ones for not “knowing” what we need. We feel unloved, unrecognized, and under-appreciated; frustrated that we have to ask. We stew in our own noxious bitterness and poison ourselves with negative thoughts and feelings. How simple it would be to say to someone, “I’d really like if you could do this for me.” Giving our loved ones the opportunity to help us, and please us, rather than setting them up for defeat by keeping our needs to ourselves and holding their lack of psychic abilities against them.

This really spoke to me and a particular situation that happened a while ago but still is unsettled. This reinforces to me that when you are going through something, anything, people don't always know how to react or behave. If you want or need something, you have to ask! Far too many people are too proud or don't want to be bothered with the words or effort. In the end, if you truly want support from your family and friends, you need to talk to them. Tell them how you feel. Tell them how sad you are or how difficlut something has been. Or, if someone has disappointed you..tell them! Don't bury it and let it build until it turns into an ugly situation. Things like this don't just disappear. We'd all be happier in our lives if we were honest with one another and also learned to forgive.

I love my family and friends and I hope you all know that! I'm not perfect and neither are you (sorry folks, but you are only human ;) ) Take this year to reflect and work on your relationships with yourselves and with those around you.

So in Love with Fall

We've had a busy Fall season! We've been able to do quite a few fun things this year. I've posted some photos in our October 2010 album. See photos below of some of our adventures.

Yesterday we participated in Franklin County's first Pumpkin Festival. We had a really fun time! We dropped off our pumpkin (that Tom and Gloria carved - did a good job I might add!) and then took a walk around to see the pumpkins. We also bumped into some friends and danced to some live music. My one complaint is that there weren't nearly the number of pumpkins that should have been there. There were 100's of people there but hardly anyone brought pumpkins! It was kind of sad. Maybe people will be better about it next year. I hope! We loved that it was so close to home and it was great to see the community come together for such a fun event!



After our time at the festival, we headed to our friend Charlotte's going away party. We got there just in time for the hayride! Gloria loved it! :) Charlotte, Chris and their son Patrick are moving to Maine. We are so sad that they are leaving but we are excited for them and their new opportunities! We will miss them and hopefully they'll come back for visits! :)

The weekend before we left for Aruba was the Jail Break 5K in Greenfield. This year Gloria was running the kids race and Tom was going to run the 5K. Both did a great job! I think Gloria had a fun time running with all the kids. After all, running is one of her favorite activities. :) Bravo Barney and the rest of the crew who put together this race! I believe it had the best turn out yet! It helped that it was a beautiful day! :)



We also got to check out Yankee Candle's Fall Festival before our vacation. It was such a gorgeous fall day that day! We got to go on a hayride, hula hoop, visit Santa Claus and enjoy the music.



More fall fun will be had this year! Halloween is just around the corner!

The Maine Event

Life is Sweet

We've had a great couple of weeks! We've been apple picking, leaf peeping and just came back yesterday from a mini vacation to Maine. The weather has been beautiful and we've been taking advantage of our time together.

I've said this to many people this summer but I'll say it here too... When you have a young child, each thing you do each year is really the first time for them. For example, we went apple picking last year but Gloria doesn't remember it. We did it again this year and, for her, it was the first time! She was in love! The same for many other things. I just love how fresh and new each adventure is to her!

The same goes for Maine. Last year we enjoyed a long weekend in Scarborough, Maine and this year, we would enjoy another trip together! Gloria had been before but this year was a completely different experience for her. She really is at a fun age! Seems like I say that at every stage though. ;)

This year, we had 4 days up in Maine instead of 3. It was perfect! Gloria was extra excited about going. We told her Wednesday night we were going on vacation at which point she packed up her own little backpack and was ready to go! We didn't get on the road until about noon on Thursday but she kept asking about going on vacation from the time she got up in the morning until we finally got on the road. This kid was ready for V-A-C-A-T-I-O-N! I can't say I blame her! :)

Perhaps my most favorite memory from the weekend was Thursday night. Tom and I took G to the beach in the evening to walk around. It was low tide and there was plenty of beach to walk on. There were hardly any other people there.

Before we left, I decided not to take my camera. I wanted to be fully submerged in the moment. After all, this was Gloria's first time at the ocean this year, I wanted to enjoy it to the fullest! The last time we had been was when we were in Maine last year! I regret not taking my camera of course. The evening was so sweet and so beautiful, I hate that I wasn't able to capture it on "film!"

The joy of watching my husband and little girl experiencing the beach was beautiful! The look on Gloria's face was priceless! Her and Tom ran up to the waves and would then run away so as to avoid the waves "catching" her. She was in heaven! Her giggles were contagious! :) It may sound very blasé but for me, it was perfect. The joy we experienced that night is forever tattooed into my mind. I suppose if I had my camera I would have been too busy taking photos to completely appreciate the moment. :)

We were sad to see our vacation come to an end. We had an amazing time with our friends and each other! As sad as we were though, it is always nice to come home. :)

Long Weekend

It was so nice to have a long weekend! We got some things done around the house, got ready for Gloria's first day of school and had lots of fun family time together. We've been super busy all summer long and finally, things are settling a bit. This weekend was refreshing and such a good end to the summer. More to come on our summer adventures but for now, we'll focus on this weekend.

The weekend was perfect! We had picnics, went to the park a couple of times, spent time with friends, Tom went to a Red Sox game with Craig, we had dinner with Tom's family and enjoyed walks and lots and lots of running!! Have I mentioned that Gloria loves to run? Well, we did A LOT of it this weekend!

I'm sad to see the weekend end though. Having Tom off for Sunday and Monday was a really nice treat! We don't usually get the holidays off together as a family. I get greedy and want more!! :)

Good Friends

It is always so good to get together with good friends! We may not always get to some of our friends as much as we would like but it sure is a treat when we do have the opportunity!

A while back, Erin, Bryan and Lizzie stopped in for a visit. They were up for Shannon and Barney's daughter's birthday party and they had some time before the party to visit us for a little bit. Lizzie and Gloria hadn't seen each other since they were about 4 or 5 months old. They were so cute together! Lizzie is such a doll and Gloria loved her! She talked about her for quite a while after she was gone. :) It was so sweet!



It was so good to see Erin, Bryan and Lizzie! We loved having the chance to catch up and spend a little time together while they were here. Thank for you guys for stopping by! Hopefully we will get to see one another sooner than later! :)

Small Town Life

We've lived in the Franklin County area for most of our lives and it always amazes me how many things we haven't experienced in our area. One of those activities included going to Yankee Doodle Days in Charlemont. We've always heard it was a fun little fair but we never had the chance to go until this year. It is definitely a small fair but it was cute! What made it a lot of fun was running into our friends! :) It was totally unplanned! It was great to see everyone! Troy, Heather and the boys and Dawn, Matt and the girls.

Besides catching up with friends, we explored what the fair had to offer. Gloria got to go into a bounce house for the first time, which she loved (once she got over her initial fear). We got to visit with the animals, hula hoop and eat! It was a beautiful day to spend together as a family! :)

Surprise!!

Surprise parties are always fun! Well, I think so at least. :) I suppose some people don't really like to be surprised. Good thing for my very dear friend Lauren, her husband Mike isn't one of those people!

One of the benefits of being event planners is that we also get to plan fun parties for ourselves! Or, at least parties for those we love around us! :) Lauren and I had both been planning special parties about the same time. I was working on Gloria's birthday party in June (photos coming soon, I promise!) while she was planning Mike's surprise 30th birthday party in July.

Lauren put together a very fun and colorful event! It was a lot of fun! She did a fish-themed party since Mike is an avid fisherman. We had brunch and the plan was to have a fishing derby afterward but the weather didn't cooperate. I suppose people could go fishing in the rain but that isn't as much fun (for some people). :)

The party was a hit and Mike was certainly surprised! Lauren did a fabulous job with everything! It looked amazing and I think everyone had a really good time, despite the weather!

I really love the above quote. Even though friends may go their separate ways, their friendship can continue to grow and get even get stronger.

On Sunday, I was able to support one of my very best friends, Jessey. Her life path has taken her all different directions over the years and no matter what, we've remained the best of friends! I support Jessey in all walks of her life and vice versa.

I am excited to support Jessey and her most recent life path. She was baptized on Sunday and Gloria and I were honored to share in her special day. It meant a lot to me to be included in such an important day to her and I know Jessey was very excited to have us there as well.

Jessey, I wish you much luck with this "new chapter" in your life! I know great things are in store for you and the life you will live from this day forward. I'm so glad we could be part of your very special day! Thank you for your friendship! We love you!

Firecracker of a Weekend!

I love when the 4th of July falls on the weekend. Its makes the holiday stretch a little more. It was so nice to have a three day weekend. Especially to have some time with Gloria. :)

We had so much fun all weekend long! So many activities and parties. We had a BBQ at the Collins' house Friday, Nancy's BBQ also Friday (visited, didn't eat...well...much anyway ;) ), Fireworks Friday night, Tag Sales with my mom Saturday morning, Uncle Frank's camp Saturday night, backyard pool fun Sunday during the day, Irene and Dave's house Sunday evening, and lastly, Laurel Lake today with my little G! Phew! Its funny, I didn't think we had much planned for the weekend but it sure did fill up!! haha

It was a fun weekend all around and we really enjoyed seeing our family and friends. Gloria had a blast with some new friends and ending the weekend at the lake today was so perfect. I only took photos at a few of the events. We were just too busy chasing a toddler most of the weekend to take many pictures. :)

Happy Birthday America! And I also want to take a moment to remember my Grandpa Sund and Great Great Aunt Ruth who were both born on the 4th of July. I love and miss you both!

Perks

Being at home with Gloria certainly has its perks. I love being able to plan activities for her throughout the week. I always try to have something fun for her to do. From a play date, craft, the park, music, the library, to just being home and helping mommy with chores, all these activities are good for her learning and development but also wonderful for us to have the time together. I cherish it so much!

My friend Jessica is a nanny to 13 month old twins. We thought it would be fun to plan a play date for the kiddos. So Gloria and I took a road trip out to Arlington on Friday to meet and play with Kellen and Abby.

If I was working, this would have been impossible. I'm so grateful for these opportunities! Gloria had such a great time with the twins. They were so cute! Abby and Kellen are just the sweetest little munchkins! I also loved getting some time with Jessey of course. I miss her! She is one of my oldest and dearest friends. I treasure our time together. I wish we could have visited longer:) I'm greedy like that though!

Gloria also loved seeing her "Tee tee." She kept asking to "go Tee tee's house?" after we left. It was just too cute! Jessica is amazing with kids and I love that she is part of Gloria's life!

These are the days I treasure. A morning spent with one of my best friends, Gloria playing with new friends and the opportunity to enjoy being a mom. Truly so special! I'm a very lucky gal:)

Breath of Fresh Air!

The weather over the weekend was amazing! I wish I could say it has continued but the last few days have been cold, wet and dreary. Oh well. I suppose the rain will be helpful in getting some buds on all the trees and plants. Spring...we are ready for you!

Back to the fond memories of the weekend gone by. Weather like we had just calls for you to be outside. In fact, we tried to take advantage of every beautiful moment. Lil' G and I got together with Liz on Saturday for a walk on the bike path, a picnic and some time at the park. It was so much fun! Gloria loves her auntie Liz! We had so much fun together. It was a girl's day out and we needed it!

Once Tom was home from work, we had some family time together and then it was time for Tom and I to get ready for a night out with friends. We feel really fortunate to have had another "adult" night so soon. Thank God for Tom's cousin Heather and Ryan...our babysitters! They were so good about coming over on such short notice. Thank you guys!! We were overdue for some time with our very good friends Craig and Katy and we made very last minute plans. Gloria loves Heather and Ryan so it was a treat for her to spend the evening with them too. From what Heather tells us, they had a really good time together. :)

Its a huge relief to have people we trust taking care of our little girl. Whether its our parents, friends or babysitters...we have a great group of people who love Gloria so so much. We feel very fortunate! Tom and I are better parents when we have time for ourselves every now and then and we couldn't have that time together without the help of our loved ones:) So thank you everyone!!

Our adult night out consisted of eating yummy Mexican food at Mama Iguana's in Northampton. One of my favorite restaurants! Their table side guacamole is delicious! And I just love their chimichangas! Mmmm good! We had such a fabulous time catching up with Craig and Katy. After dinner, we went over to Herrell's for some ice cream and walked around browsing in stores. It was a gorgeous night to walk around the city! It felt so so good. We love spending time with Craig and Katy and wish they lived closer. Hopefully it won't be another 6 months before we get to see them again!

Although Sunday wasn't quite as nice as Saturday, we still enjoyed the day together. Tom and I took a walk with Gloria on the bike path in Turners Sunday morning. I took some random photos and we just had a nice time together. Its fun to listen to Gloria point out everything...trees, water, frogs, squirrels, sky, crows, rocks, and so on. She loves the outdoors and doesn't miss a thing! Gloria loved being able to walk for a bit too. She rides in the jogging stroller mostly but we do let her get out and stretch her legs at a certain point.

Besides fun stuff, we had a chance to catch up on some projects around the house. It felt good to get some things accomplished. Some reorganizing, spring cleaning and some home projects. Right now I'm working on painting some things for Gloria's room. Its been 2 years and I still haven't finished decorating her room! So so sad! I've had all the pieces and the vision for it but just haven't put it all together yet. I'm tired of the unfinished room and I am determined to get it done! Hopefully I'll have it finished soon so I can show you:) And so I can check one more thing off my long list of to do's!

Luck of the Irish

St. Patrick's Day is this week and we celebrated a wee early:)

Saturday, we participated in the annual St. Patrick's Day dinner at the Elk's club. Our first time attending such an event. The menu, of course, was corned beef and cabbage. Being Irish doesn't mean you necessarily like this dish though. I do not! haha Tom picked on me most of the night because I didn't realize the meal consisted of only corned beef and cabbage! Hm. I think I should have eaten a little something before we went. I filled up on rolls and potatoes instead. :) Everyone else raved about the meal though. Its one many people look forward to. It was a very well put together dinner!

We joined some good friends at the dinner and had a fun night out! Some enjoyed the food and the music and some of us just enjoyed the company.

One topic of conversation always seems to creep up when we are out with our friends...reminiscing about years past. I find that its important to live in the present BUT, I love to talk about "the old days" haha! We've had some seriously fun times! Goodness how things have changed. All for the good though. Liz and I couldn't believe that this year marks our 5 year wedding anniversary with our hubbies. Wow!! 5 years!!

In the spirit of St. Patrick's day and speaking of the past, here is a photo of Tom dressed like a leprechaun for Halloween one year. This was way back in 1999!! Tom and I had just started dating. He's going to kill me for posting this photo!! Hehe But, after all, he is my lucky charm:) And the tallest leprechaun you'll ever see!!

Babes of 2008

I can't believe our 2008 babies are all turning 2!!! Meghan (born February 14th) was the first to hit the big number 2! And now William (born February 23rd) was the second. Our little friend Lizzie is next (born April 22nd). Then it will be Gloria (June 4), Brady (June 29th) Bre (July 4th) and finally Ella (August 15th). Amazing how fast the time goes! All of these little kiddos have such a special place in our hearts. We love watching them grow! We love that Gloria is lucky to have these little friends (and cousin!) in her life. :)

Sunday was William's birthday party and Gloria was invited to help celebrate. We had a great time at the party! Gloria loved playing with all the kids. She even helped Will open his presents...oh boy! Hopefully he'll be able to return the favor at her birthday party! :)



I was especially honored to have been asked to make William's birthday cake. They wanted Elmo on the cake and I was happy to oblige. It was fun doing a birthday cake for another special kiddo in our lives.

Sunday Funday

Last Sunday was a full day filled with good friends and lots of food! Our bellies were so full by the end of the day! We got to enjoy brunch at The Depot Sunday morning with our very good friends Matt, Dawn, Bre, Carlie, Shannon, Kaitlyn, Liz and Corey. We had a great time! Its always a treat to get together with them.

Of course, last Sunday was Super Bowl Sunday and Barney and Shannon invited everyone over to their house for the festivities. It was so much fun! The kids had a great time playing while the adults watched the game. Everyone was happy:)

Celebrating Closure

January 22nd marked the one year anniversary of Disney shutting down Wondertime Magazine, my previous place of employment as most of you know. A day that brought great sadness to the employees, the readers and many other people who helped make the magazine the best parent's magazine that ever was! I'm not biased or anything though. ;)

Instead of wallowing in misery, us Wondertime peeps partied on Friday instead! It was so good to see my old friends and to hear about everyone's adventures since we parted ways. Some of us have stayed in touch while others I haven't seen in quite some time. Most are still unemployed but exploring new and exciting opportunities, similar to Lauren and myself and our new business:) Its amazing to hear where people are at now. Loosing a job sometimes gives that push into something we never thought we'd venture into. As cliche as it sounds, everything happens for a reason.

New Year's Brunch

Matt and Dawn hosted a fabulous New Years brunch on Sunday. It was originally scheduled for the 1st but because of weather, they rescheduled to Sunday. We had such a great time with everyone! Heather had a great idea to make the numbers for the year and have everyone get their photos taken. It was fun! Visit our New Years 2010 album to see them all.

It was a busy day for us that day. After the brunch, we headed to my parent's house for lunch and to celebrate my aunt Signe's birthday. My dad made his specialty, a cheesy chicken and rice dish and it was delish! Then we had chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting that I made for dessert, yum! We had a fun afternoon! Gloria was certainly pooped after all the visiting, as were we:)

Buzz Buzz Buzz

We've been busy bees this last week or so. Actually, we've been more like social butterflies than bees:) Lots of fun times have been had lately.

After many months, we finally had a chance to get a night out on Saturday. We met up with our good friends Craig and Katy. First though, they came to our house to visit with little G. Boy did she love them! She snuggled right up to Craig:) It was too cute. After dropping Gloria off at Gramma and Grampa's house for the night, we were headed out for some dinner and fun.

We went to one of my favorite restaurants, The Goten. Fun times! Then we headed to The Blue Heron Restaurant for some cocktails. What a cool place! Very modern and unique. When we drove up to the restaurant, we weren't quite sure what to think. It was in an old library (or similar building of some sort). We loved it though! It was so great to spend the evening with Craig and Katy! We wish they lived closer! This was the couple who were married in September. Visit their photographer's blog to see some of their pics. AMAZING!

We had another big event this weekend. We finally got to meet our sweet little niece Lauren Alexis! We knew she was adorable but she is so much more so in person! And so very laid back and a happy happy girl!

We were honored to be a part of her baptism on Sunday and to participate in her welcome party afterward. It was not only great to see Lauren, but also wonderful to see so many family and friends at the party. What a treat! Gloria also got to see her uncle Jon and finally meet her aunt Michelle on Sunday. I think our little G was stunned by all the people at the party but warmed up on Monday when we got to visit again at Tom's parent's house. She'll be best buds with both her aunt and uncle before the week is over. Gloria sure loves her cousin though!! How could she not?

I have photos of the baptism but will wait to post them once Michelle has updated her blog. I don't want to spoil anything. I'm sad to say though, I did not take pictures at the welcome party:( Gloria was quite the handful that night and required both Tom and my hands! Phew! The fun times with a toddler! So...I had no hands left to take pictures. I'm quite bummed about it really. Maybe I can borrow some photos off of some other people. Please? Anyone willing?

Our night didn't end at the welcome party on Sunday. Oh no. We headed to my cousin Heather's house for little Katy's 3rd birthday party. Lucky for us (and the crowd at the party) Gloria had calmed down a lot! :) We had a great time with the fam! It was especially nice to see my cousin Amanda and her daughter Aalliyah who were visiting from Maine. Aalliyah is about the same age as Gloria. They were too cute together! (I'll post pics soon)

As I said, busy weekend! It was so great though. We loved every minute of it! Well...except the screaming toddler moments. Although, we are still so grateful for even those times:) At least Gloria is expressive? Yeah. That's what we'll call it:)

P.S. When I asked Tom if I should add anything to this post, he said to tell you that hunting season has started. Well...I informed him that I already told all of you this info previously (bow season). BUT he said to tell you again because now it is shot gun season! haha Do you think he is a little excited?
