Snowtober?

That is what people keep calling this month, Snowtober. I don't ever remember having snow in October! Last night's storm will certainly be a memorable one! We actually didn't get hit as hard as many in Massachusetts, I think about 12 inches? The difficult part for people in Greenfield is the loss of power. So many people lost power and continue to be without it. I think the last I checked there were over 650,000 customers in Massachusetts alone without power. NUTS! We only lost power for about 3 hours today which is nothing compared to many people in town. We are very fortunate to have gotten it back so quickly. I think living next to a nursing home does have its perks. They generally get the power running back up pretty quickly because of them.

I have to say that I've never been so nervous in a snow storm before. Since the snow was so heavy and the leaves were still on the trees, branches were getting weighed down quite a bit. In many cases, they broke right off!! We had two trees in our back yard completely loose their tops! Good thing they were far from the house. We heard the cracking and crashing which was scary. I was so nervous I insisted on all of us sleeping in the spare room in our basement! Haha! It put me a little more at ease. Thank God nothing came down on our house or cars (we have a lot of trees close to us!). When I went out this morning, the sagging trees were creepy! I am in shock that more didn't come down.

Our thoughts go out to all those who were affected by the storm and continue to have to deal with the effects of it. Hang in there!

It was nice to at least wake up to a warmer, sunnier day. It helped to melt off a lot of the snow off the trees which is good. To make the best of the day, we spent it playing in the snow, making Halloween cookies and baking yummy pear bread and apple/pear pie! We are hoping for a warmer day tomorrow for Halloween! Gloria can't wait to go Trick-or-Treating!!

More updates to come as well as lots and lots of photos! In the meantime, here is a picture of Leo checking out his very first snow storm yesterday. :)

Snow Day

As most of you know, I'm not a big fan of winter:) I hate being cold and the season always lasts much longer than I'd like. Some of you may feel the same:)

However...with Gloria around, seems like winter is a bit more fun! I remember when I was a kid how much I loved sledding! We didn't care how cold it was, we were outside every chance we could get. Of course, we didn't have a computer or even cable (although, that hasn't changed) so we were always outdoors. It was great! Guess I lost that enthusiasm when I grew up and got cranky about the cold:)

I'm starting to have a new appreciation for the snow at least. Still not thrilled about the cold:) We recently had some snow so Tom and I took Gloria out to play in it. It was so fun to watch her! We have a sled and a very slight hill on the side of the house so we took her sledding. She loved it! She also liked trying to eat the snow:) She kept taking a taste and would say "Yum!" haha Not that we want to encourage her eating it but it was too funny!

January 2010 album is up and ready for viewing:) More pics to come. Oh, and there are some new pics in our December 2009 album from New Years Eve.
